ISPM is a multidisciplinary, pluralistic, non-governmental organization that was created to promote and defend the rights of women in Argentina. ISPM's services to the community include: social, economic and political research, planning and evaluating public policies, empowerment and leadership advice to national and international organizations, spreading awareness about human rights issues through campaigns and training as well as other various activities.
ISPM is concerned with the protection and promotion of women’s rights. This specifically includes the prevention of violence, sexual and reproductive rights, labor, and women’s leadership.
ISPM's work is primarily intended to influence politicians, legislators, and municipal authorities, as well as provincial and national journalists, trade unionists, social organizations, and NGOs. They also focus on influencing society in general to introduce a perspective of gender equality in society.
The majority of their efforts are devoted to monitoring gender issues in the media, the impact of public policies on women and providing advice to legislators in municipal, provincial and national areas.
ISPM's objectives include:
- Defending human rights while incorporating and mainstreaming a gendered perspective.
- Strengthening women’s self-esteem to enhance women’s empowerment.
- Contributing to cultural transformation in order to end gender inequalities.
- Making the problems that affect women’s equality known and propose policies that improve their daily lives.
- Identifying the factors that influence women’s participation in politics and putting a stop to those that are preventing women’s participation.
- Empowering women in various fields and activities (student unions, professional, etc.), help the new generation of female leadership and strengthen the existing one.
- Educating the politicians about to discriminatory practices that infringe on women’s access to positions of power.
- Contributing to the formation of political opinions that support social changes that improve women’s status.
- Supporting the systematization of information to the design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies.
- Contributing to the development of equal opportunity policies in labor and production fields.
- Helping to reform health plans and educational programs in the public sector.
