About
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 500 college/university institution partners. The organization includes both a section 501(c)(3) public charity, the primary membership organization, and the AAUW Action Fund, a smaller section 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that may engage in limited activities related to member activism and voter education.
For 130 years, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in all aspects of our work.
AAUW has dedicated more than 120 years to the advancement of education. To this day, AAUW continues to break through barriers to improve educational opportunities for women and girls. Learn how AAUW makes a difference through research, publications, leadership programs, and as one of the world’s largest sources of funding to ensure that women and girls have access to higher education and the opportunity to achieve excellence in professions of their choice.
AAUW takes action on the issues that matter. Equity is the legal right of all women and girls. AAUW frames and fosters factual, in-depth, objective dialogue among legislators and change makers that results in political, institutional and legal support for women's equity in all areas of life and work. Our strength is in our numbers, and through the volume of our collective voice we will continue to break through barriers for women and girls.
AAUW makes connections — people and ideas, passion and intelligence, creativity and commitment. A nationwide community of nearly 100,000 individuals dedicated to breaking through educational and economic barriers for women and girls, AAUW brings thoughtful people together to create change. Whether through local initiatives, the national convention, or by following the latest online, AAUW provides myriad options for connecting wherever you are, whenever you want.
