With nearly 10,000 community members, the Alliance for Women in Media is proud to represent men and women engaged in all aspects of creating high-quality media and related services.
About
The Alliance for Women in Media harnesses the promise, passion and power of women in all forms of media to empower career development, engage in thought leadership, and drive positive change for our industry and societal progress.
Our Goals:
- Work to improve the quality of the media;
- Promote the entry, development and advancement of women in the media and allied fields;
- Create content that engages people in a dialog about the need for greater diversity and representation in the media industry and related professions; and
- Create or highlight campaigns that fuel societal progress.
The Alliance for Women in Media was formed in 1951 as successor to the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) women's division. NAB voted approval of the new organization, offering complete cooperation and assistance. The following year, more than 280 women gathered to celebrate and approve the structure of American Women in Radio in Television (AWRT). In 2010, the organization changed its name to the Alliance for Women in Media, in order to better represent our commitment to women in all forms of electronic media.
Our Initiatives:
- Content, resources and information that help women in media succeed and lead
- Compelling and salient government and regulatory advocacy
- Provision of key industry updates, with a particular focus on women’s leadership and roles
- Career development
- Professional development
- Cultivation of a personal and professional network via local, national and virtual opportunities for collaboration and lifetime learning
